Peaceful sleep at night works miracles during the day. Talking with friends and clients, and observing my own life, I’ve found three things that truly support a peaceful night’s sleep.

The first is maintaining an active, healthy lifestyle during the day. This includes plenty of movement and exercise outdoors, breathing fresh air, drinking enough clean water, and eating lighter meals—less heavy food in the evening often helps the body rest more easily.

The second is to finish all difficult thoughts and unresolved issues in your mind at least three hours before going to bed. Try to stop working through problems late at night and instead give yourself space to mentally “close the day.” This creates distance between stress and sleep. In that time, shift your focus to something uplifting, such as reading an inspiring book. My current read is Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert, the author of Eat, Pray, Love. Her writing feels positive, easy-going, and creatively inspiring, which makes it perfect for winding down.

The third is using scent to support a calm mind. Smelling essential oils that promote relaxation can gently signal the body that it is time to rest.

When these three elements come together—healthy activity during the day, mental closure before bed, and calming sensory cues at night—sleep becomes deeper, more peaceful, and naturally restorative.
